Decorating a
Teen Boy's Bedroom
Where to start in decorating
for teens is a very common question. No
longer children but not yet adults, teens
wants their own space decorated to match
his or her personality. It is not a good
idea to choose the current fad as a decorating
theme. Fads come and go and unless you
want to face changes every six months,
you would come out much better by concentrating
on the type of furniture and window treatments
you both agree upon and let your teen
add personal touches such as posters,
lights, and memorabilia. In fact, it may
be the best idea to provide your teen
a budget and a general idea of the types
of furniture he or she may choose, and
let them make their own decisions.

You may want to consider that any furniture
you buy now will go with your teen when
he/she goes away to college or gets an apartment,
and plan accordingly. Entertainment centers,
desks, and shelving are important additions
to a teen's room. You want the room to have
the look and feel of a mini-apartment inside
your home. Not including kitchen facilities,
the room should equip your teen with everything
he or she needs to relax, work, study, and
have fun with friends. Stick with neutral
colors, red, white, and blue, or muted shades
of green and gold. Window treatments should
be simple yet stylish and in colors that
coordinate with the color of the walls and
carpeting.
When your child moves away, you will want
to make an easy transformation from teen
room to guest room or office, so choose
wall and carpet colors that will blend in
with whatever your plan may be for the room
when your teen is grown. The main idea in
decorating a teen's room is to give them
a functional space with room for plenty
of personal touches that can be altered
as your teen continues to mature. |
